HOW DOES IT WORK?

A bad power factor generates poor device efficiency, lower voltage, higher current and therefore higher Joule Effect losses.

The current used by an installation is very often disturbed by harmonic distortions: the electrical voltage delivered is not perfectly sinusoidal.

In general, these disturbances come from the user’s installation. They are generated, among others, by switched-mode power supplies (televisions, computers, etc.), variable speed drives or lighting controls which pollute the electrical network.

Harmonic distortions cause cables, motors and transformers to heat up and thus premature ageing with risks of overcurrent and energy losses.
